Information about the play:
One of the most prolific and widely performed of the English language playwrights, Sir Alan Ayckbourn is the author of 70 plays, Confusions being the 17th that he wrote. Confusions capped a year of great success Alan Ayckbourn. It was written in the autumn of 1974, the year in which The Norman Conquests trilogy opened in London to great acclaim, joining Absurd Person Singular which had opened the previous year to similar plaudits.
Our production consists of four 1-Act Plays: Mother Figure, Drinking Companion, Between Mouthfuls & Gosforth's Fete. These four plays, presented as comedy and farce, deal with marital and class conflict and point up the fears and weakenesses of the English middle class. We know the awful, sick cause of our laughter yet we still laugh. Ayckbourn is an important commentator on the lifestyles of the English suburban, middle class and a skilful innovator who experiments with theatrical styles. |
